Drone Attack on Ust-Luga Port: The National Security and Defense Council Reveals What Is Known About the Strategic Object of the Russian Federation.

Drones Attack Russian Sea Port Ust-Luga
On January 4, 2024, unknown drones attacked the Russian commercial sea port of Ust-Luga, located in the Leningrad region. This was reported by Andriy Kovalenko, head of the National Security and Defense Council’s Center for Countering Disinformation. According to him, the port is of great significance to Russia in the context of the war with Ukraine and overall geopolitical tensions.
'Ust-Luga port plays a key role for Russia in the context of the war against Ukraine and the overall geopolitical tensions.' 'Ust-Luga has become one of the main export points for Russian oil, gas, coal, and other resources after Western sanctions were imposed,' Kovalenko emphasized, highlighting that this source of income is being used to finance the war.
The head of the NCD of the National Security and Defense Council stressed the military significance of the object: 'The port is located at a strategically important point in the Baltic Sea, which allows Russia to maintain a naval presence in the region, including shipments for military needs.'
According to Kovalenko, due to sanctions, Russia has lost access to many European ports, and Ust-Luga has become the main outlet to international markets. The port facilitates the transshipment of goods for Asian countries, including China and India.
'Ust-Luga port has effectively become a tool for Russia's economic and military survival amidst isolation,' concluded the head of the NCD of the National Security and Defense Council.
Earlier, Ukraine struck with drones and missiles at the oil refinery supplying fuel to Putin's army.
