Why the demilitarized zone is dangerous for Ukraine: military explanation.

Ukraine is abandoning the idea of creating a 30-kilometer demilitarized zone along the front line, as it may lead to serious losses and threats to strategic territories. This was reported in a statement by the head of the Reserve Council of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ivan Tymochko, as cited by 'Glavkom' from a source at Ukrainian Radio.
The expert commented on the idea of U.S. special envoy Keith Kellogg, noting that it reflects a lack of awareness of the real situation at the front.
According to the military, to create such a zone, troops would need to be withdrawn 15 kilometers into Ukrainian territory and 15 kilometers into Russian territory, which would result in the area remaining without military protection. Additionally, the withdrawal of equipment would require another 10-15 kilometers, which in total could create a zone without any troops up to 45 km from the front line. – 'This is very dangerous and poses a great threat to security.'
The expert noted that Russian occupiers oppose the creation of a similar zone in their territories, primarily in the Kursk and Belgorod regions.
It is worth mentioning that Putin claimed support for peace but noted that it was Ukraine that halted negotiations in 2022. Proposing to hold direct negotiations in Istanbul, the President of Russia suggested meeting on Thursday, May 15. Zelensky agreed and confirmed that he would participate in the meeting in Turkey and looks forward to meeting with Putin.
