EU to Direct Frozen Russian Assets to Ukrainian Energy Sector.
The European Union will allocate 160 million euros for energy support to Ukraine ahead of winter.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced this at a briefing, notes "European Truth".
Thus, the European Union plans to help Ukraine prepare for the next winter, when there might be Russian strikes on the energy system.
According to von der Leyen, the EU is providing an additional amount of around 160 million euros this winter. This will include 60 million euros in humanitarian aid. For example, for setting up heating points and heaters, and around 100 million euros for repair work and generation from renewable sources.
The European Commission President emphasized that the amount of 100 million euros will be paid from the income of frozen Russian assets in Europe.
Von der Leyen noted that since the beginning of the full-scale war, the EU has already allocated around 2 billion euros for energy support to Ukraine. However, this is a minimal estimate, as it does not take into account the cost of all the equipment that was physically provided.
Additionally, Ukraine has received over 10 thousand generators and transformers from the EU through the Civil Protection Mechanism.
