It did not happen as expected. Fencer Perchuk commented on the victory over the Russians.

The victory of the Ukrainian team over neutral athletes with Russian passports at the junior world fencing championship
On April 15, the Ukrainian fencing team defeated neutral athletes from Russia in the 1/32 finals of the junior world fencing championship. The Ukrainian fencers won in the U-20 sabre category with a score of 45:41. One of the team members, Maksym Perchuk, shared his impressions of the bout with Tribuna.com journalists.
Before the start of the competition, Perchuk learned that a neutral team was allowed to compete under the flag of the FIE. The Ukrainian team faced this bout against the neutrals from Russia, but in the fencer's opinion, this decision was not neutral, but made by the FIE team. Perchuk believes that the FIE leadership was convinced of an easy victory over the Ukrainian team, but the result turned out to be different from what was expected.
The Ukrainian fencers considered this bout to be practically the final and put in every effort to win it. The victory over the team from Russia caused Perchuk particular satisfaction and pride for Ukraine. He also emphasizes the need to do everything possible to win against the aggressor.
Perchuk noted that in the last match against the Russians, the judge from Georgia did not count four successful hits for him, but despite this, the Ukrainian team still achieved victory.
Analyzing this event, it can be said that the victory of the Ukrainian team over neutral athletes with Russian passports is an important achievement for Ukrainian fencing. It demonstrates that Ukrainian athletes are capable of defeating strong opponents and approach every bout with great responsibility. This also emphasizes the need to support Ukrainian athletes, especially in the context of external aggression and attempts by some countries to involve athletes from banned teams. Ukraine hopes for victories but must always be prepared for tough competitions in professional sports.
