6,000 Russians Have Applied to Germany for Asylum

After Russia invaded Ukraine, more than 6,000 Russians aged 18 to 45 applied to Germany for asylum. According to the German Ministry of the Interior, only 349 of them received refugee status due to the threat of persecution in their home country or a ban on deportation; many applications were rejected or not considered under the Dublin Regulation.

Low Rate of Positive Decisions in the German Government

MP Clara Bünger considers the low number of positive decisions in the German government - only 349 out of more than 6,000 applications - extremely outrageous. She noted that many Russians in Germany avoided military service due to the war, but obtaining refugee status proves to be quite difficult due to the decisions of other EU countries and possible mobilization.
