New Nintendo Switch 2 Console: Pricing War May Affect Sales.

Sales Forecast for the Nintendo Switch 2 Console
Nintendo has presented a somewhat limited forecast regarding the sales of its new Switch 2 console, despite record demand for pre-orders.
The Japanese company's expectations are that the supply of the long-awaited Switch 2 will not exceed 15 million units in the fiscal year ending March 2026. This figure is lower than the average analyst forecast of 16.8 million units.
'These forecasts are likely to divide the audience of Nintendo watchers,' noted Pelham Smithers, managing director of the research firm Pelham Smithers Associates.
The company also anticipates an annual operating profit of 320 billion yen (about 2.2 billion dollars), which is significantly lower than market expectations, despite the high popularity of pre-orders for the console and the expectation that the Switch 2 will become the fastest-selling console in history.
Readiness for Change at Nintendo
Nintendo is preparing for a generational shift in consoles, moving away from the eight-year Switch model. After years of sluggish growth and declining demand for the original console, the company aims to restore its market position.
In the reported quarter of 2025, Nintendo's operating profit fell by 46% to 35 billion yen. The company ended the fiscal year having sold 10.8 million Switch consoles and 155.4 million games.
These figures, along with the high demand for the Switch 2 and the dynamics of pre-orders, are hindered by the tariff policy of the national government and investor market outrage regarding the possible price increases.
