Angelina Jolie honored the memory of the Ukrainian writer at the Cannes Film Festival

American actress Angelina Jolie spoke at the 'Rising Star' (Trophée Chopard) award ceremony at the Cannes Film Festival. During her speech, she honored the memory of the Ukrainian writer Victoria Amelina, who died from a Russian strike in 2023.

Jolie served as the godmother of the award, noting that she loves international cinema that can transport viewers 'even to the battlefield' and highlighted the stories of women who lost their lives during wars and conflicts abroad.

«And none of us are naive. We know that many artists in the world are deprived of freedom and safety to tell their stories, and many have died – like Fatima Hassuna, killed in Gaza, Shaden Gardoud, who died in Sudan, Victoria Amelina, killed in Ukraine, and many other outstanding artists who should be with us now. We owe a great debt of gratitude to all who risk their lives sharing their stories and experiences because they help us learn and grow.»

As a result of the Russian missile strike on Kramatorsk, writer Victoria Amelina and other civilians were killed. The tragic events will forever remain in the memory of Ukrainians. Fortunately, those responsible for the terrorist acts are being held accountable for their crimes before justice.
