Suspect in the murder of an activist in Odesa detained

Law enforcement officers have detained a man suspected of murdering public activist Dmytro Hanul. It has been revealed that a weapon, likely used in the crime, was found in his apartment. The Ministry of Internal Affairs thanks everyone who helped in identifying and detaining the suspect. Details of the investigation will be provided by the police.

Who was Dmytro Hanul

Dmytro Hanul was an Odesa public activist and volunteer known for his patriotic activities and support of the Ukrainian military. He actively helped the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in particular providing them with necessary resources.

The activist was attacked previously. In 2023, Hanul suffered an attack in Odesa. According to him, he was invited to a meeting under the pretext of discussing volunteer assistance, but during the meeting, he was attacked. However, the activist managed to break free and call the police. He also appealed to the Security Service of Ukraine for protection due to threats and the disclosure of his personal information.

Murder of Dmytro Hanul

On March 14, Dmytro Hanul was killed in the Primorsky district of Odesa. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has taken the investigation of this case under the personal control of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko.
