Renowned Italian boxer Nino Benvenuti has died

On Tuesday, May 20, renowned Italian boxer and Olympic champion Nino Benvenuti passed away at the age of 88. As reported by 'Glavkom', this was announced by the Italian National Olympic Committee.

Benvenuti became a true star of amateur boxing in the 1950s and 1960s. He won the European championship title twice (in 1957 and 1959), and at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, he won the gold medal in the weight category up to 67 kg.

In January 1961, Nino transitioned to professional boxing. In his first five years in the pro ring, he achieved an impressive series of 65 consecutive victories.

In his later career, Benvenuti became the world champion under the WBC, WBA, and reputable magazine The Ring. Overall, he recorded 82 victories in professional boxing (35 of them by knockout), 7 losses, and 1 draw.

After concluding his boxing career, Benvenuti became a restaurant owner, TV host, sports commentator, and city council member in Trieste.

In 1996, he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. In 2006, he carried the Olympic flag at the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games in Turin.

Former Latvian national football team player Andriy Prokhorenkov has died

Former Latvia national football team forward Andriy Prokhorenkov has passed away at the age of 48. According to Latvian media, Prokhorenkov was diagnosed with a malignant tumor at the end of 2024.

Prokhorenkov debuted for the Latvian national team in 2002 in a match against Poland, and in the following years, he became a regular player in the starting lineup. By 2007, he had played 32 matches for the national team and scored four goals.

Prokhorenkov participated in Euro 2004 as part of the Latvian national football team. In that tournament, he played all three matches and made one assist.
