Japanese Prime Minister Re-Elected

During the first round of voting to determine the prime minister at a plenary session of the House of Representatives, Shigeru Ishiba fell asleep. He remained motionless for several minutes, with his face down and eyes closed. He was noticed by the Chief Cabinet Secretary and others who looked at him worriedly.

Nobuyuki Baba, leader of the Party of Innovation in Japan, said that these were elections and it was inappropriate for Ishiba to fall asleep. There was also a video on Twitter showing the prime minister dozing off during a parliament session.

On November 11, the Lower House of the Japanese parliament reelected Shigeru Ishiba as prime minister. In the first round of voting, Ishiba received 221 votes, thus retaining the position of prime minister.

The full Japanese government resigned before the prime ministerial elections in the country's parliament.
