Ukraine supports the idea of a 30-day ceasefire
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Ukraine supports the idea of a 30-day ceasefire proposed by US President Donald Trump. Meanwhile, analysts find that Russia remains steadfast in its attitude towards any agreements regarding a ceasefire in Ukraine.
Attempts to achieve a ceasefire are complicated
An important step towards peace in Ukraine is considered to be Russia agreeing to the idea of a 30-day ceasefire. However, according to US Special Envoy to Ukraine General Keith Kellogg, the refusal of Russian President Putin is the main barrier to achieving an agreement. Kellogg also emphasized the weakness of Russian forces and the escalation of the military situation in Russia.
Kellogg stated that Ukraine is ready to immediately sign an agreement for a comprehensive ceasefire. At the same Time, ISW explains that Russia is likely trying to evade negotiations on this matter to avoid accountability. The leading agency believes that the Kremlin may exploit the lack of oversight of the agreement's compliance for its own benefit.
