High-tech drones were spotted over the ChemCoast Park Brunsbüttel industrial park in Schleswig-Holstein during August. An investigation into suspected espionage activities has been initiated by the Flensburg prosecutor's office, reports Spiegel citing a confidential report.
The industrial park is located in an area where chemical and oil companies are situated. Drones were also recorded over the decommissioned nuclear power plant in Brunsbüttel, reports Bild.
Law enforcement authorities suspect that Russia may be behind these drones. Due to this threat, the police and prosecutors are on alert, journalists write. It is believed in Germany that Russian drones may be launched from civilian ships in the North Sea.
