The Ukrainian enforcement service can initiate the debt collection process through property seizure when a person has financial obligations. However, the law provides a list of items that remain with the debtor in any case.
Property Not Subject to Seizure — List
According to Ukrainian legislation, there are items that cannot be seized or confiscated, even if a person has debts. These include:
- Household items, personal belongings, medicines and medical devices.
- Furniture and appliances necessary to meet the basic needs of the family.
- Property necessary for conducting religious rituals.
- Livestock and agricultural necessities for individual farming.
- Agricultural tools, a car for persons with disabilities, and other items.
- Awards, trophies, and commendations belonging to the debtor.
The enforcement service is also prohibited from taking food and water supplies necessary for personal consumption, or money for purchasing them for a certain period.
It is also possible to find out which property the enforcement service seizes as a priority, as well as whether they can take away the housing owned by the debtor's spouse.
The rules of the enforcement service in Ukraine state that certain items and property of the debtor remain exempt from seizure even in case of their indebtedness. This simplifies the debt collection process and allows people to keep what is necessary for their daily lives.Read also
