Stoltenberg assessed the chances of changing Putin's position on Ukraine.

NATO Secretary General does not believe in changing Putin's opinion on Ukraine
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said he does not believe it is possible to change the opinion of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin regarding Ukraine. He stated this in his farewell speech before stepping down.
Stoltenberg expressed confidence that Putin will not change his intentions to achieve victory over Ukraine. However, he is confident that by providing Ukraine with more weapons, it is possible to make Putin understand that he will not get what he wants.
We all want this war to end. The fastest way to end the war is to lose it. But that will not bring peace. That will bring Russian occupation. Today, President Putin believes that he can achieve his goal on the battlefield. And he believes that he can outlast us. This is why he continues his brutal war. I do not believe we can change Putin's mind. But I believe we can change his calculations. By providing Ukraine with more weapons, we can make Putin understand that he will not be able to get what he wants by force. - explained the alliance's secretary general.
Furthermore, Stoltenberg emphasized that "the paradox is that the more weapons we supply to Ukraine, the more likely it is that we can achieve peace and end the war." He clarified that reliable long-term support for Ukraine from NATO will also accelerate the end of the war.
As President Zelensky stated, Russia must be part of future peace negotiations. The Minsk agreements after Russia's first invasion in 2014 did not bring peace. Any future agreement must be supported by strong military support for Ukraine and reliable security guarantees to ensure lasting peace. There can be no sustainable security in Europe without a stable Ukraine. - he added.
Earlier, Stoltenberg spoke about "reconciliation" with Russia and NATO's lost opportunities.
