Supermarkets have changed fish prices in March: how much does it cost during Lent.


Ukrainians were shown how fish prices have changed in March.
With the change of season, many Ukrainians are reviewing their eating habits. During Lent, although not everyone adheres to all restrictions, many believers refrain from meat, but still keep fish in their diet. Doctors say this is a sensible decision, especially for those who have certain health issues and cannot completely give up animal protein.
According to a price study in major retail chains, in March 2025, there is a slight decrease in prices for main types of fish compared to February.
Among the most popular types of fish in Ukraine, carp has become cheaper. If in February the average price for live carp was 155.48 UAH per kilogram, now it has decreased to 150.10 UAH/kg. In the Auchan chain, carp can be purchased for 139.00 UAH/kg, while in Megamarket - for 161.20 UAH/kg.
The price for gutted carp has also decreased: from 199.05 UAH/kg in February to 195.30 UAH/kg in March. However, the difference between stores is significant - from 169.00 UAH/kg in Auchan to 221.60 UAH/kg in Megamarket.
Baltic herring has shown a slight price decrease - from 196.04 UAH/kg to 192.00 UAH/kg. The best market offer is at Novus, where the price is 169.00 UAH/kg, while in Megamarket - 228.00 UAH/kg.
The price for fresh-frozen mackerel has also decreased, although slightly - from 198.27 UAH/kg in February to 190.00 UAH/kg in March. In Novus, this fish can be purchased for 169.00 UAH/kg, while in Megamarket - for 211.00 UAH/kg.
