Since the beginning of the process of declaring weapons by citizens in Ukraine, nearly 7,000 units of firearms and over 2.5 million ammunition have been declared in total. This was reported by the head of the National Police of Ukraine, Ivan Vihivskyi, based on the results of the expert discussion 'Joint Measures to Counter Illegal Circulation of Weapons, Ammunition, and Explosive Materials in Ukraine'.
'Currently, 6,350 citizens have approached the units of the National Police of Ukraine, who declared almost 7 thousand units of firearms (automatic weapons – 3,512; carbines, rifles, and shotguns – 3,054; pistols, revolvers – 384). In addition, over 2.5 million ammunition have been declared for them,' he noted.According to Vihivskyi, there are types of weapons that are only in circulation in the territory of the aggressor country, such as the 2012 model Kalashnikov automatic rifle (1,013 units), which has been in serial production and used by the Russian army since 2018. 'The largest number of inquiries from individuals regarding the declaration of firearms and their ammunition is currently noted from: Kyiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv regions. Some citizens voluntarily surrender found weapons, not wanting to keep them,' he informed. Vihivskyi stressed that illegal possession of weapons entails criminal liability. 'We cannot be sure that all the weapons currently in the hands of people will be declared. Therefore, we warn that in the event of illegal weapons being found on a citizen, they will face criminal responsibility. We once again urge joining the declaration process and possessing weapons legally,' he emphasized. According to the data, the most citizens approached the police regarding the declaration of weapons in the cities of Kyiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv regions. There is also a trend of voluntarily surrendering found weapons. It is worth remembering that illegal possession of weapons can have serious consequences. Analysis Statistics on the declaration of weapons by Ukrainian citizens indicate the activity of the population in addressing security issues. In recent years, the number of declared firearms and their ammunition has significantly increased. This indicates that people are paying more attention to their own security and the legality of weapon possession. Despite this, there are still types of weapons that are only in circulation in the territory of the aggressor country. This poses certain threats to security in Ukraine. Therefore, it is important to continue promoting the process of weapon declaration and involve the public in this step.
