Mobile communication shutdown in Vatican territory before electing a new Pope
Before electing a new Pope, the Vatican plans to shut down mobile communication on its territory and use communication jammers around the Sistine Chapel for the conclave. This is done to ensure complete secrecy during the elections.
The Cardinals who will vote for the new Pope are already in Rome. They must relinquish their phones and electronic devices to avoid any external influence during the conclave. The Cardinals will be completely cut off from the world during the procedure of electing the new Pope.
The Sistine Chapel itself will be completely blocked during the conclave to ensure absolute secrecy. Such security measures have been taken during previous conclaves, and conducting such operational secrecy is a tradition for the Catholic Church.
