Telegram founder Pavel Durov was released from custody today, August 28, after being arrested on Saturday, August 24. He was arrested due to the platform's lack of cooperation with authorities during the investigation of illegal content. This was reported by BFMTV.
It is reported that after almost four days of detention by the police, Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, was finally handed over to justice.
According to BFMTV, the judge terminated his detention after the first interrogation and potential charges. Further proceedings will include an initial interrogation and consideration of charges.
The founder of Telegram was presented to the court in the afternoon of August 28. He was transported to the courthouse in a convoy of six cars – accompanied by police and security.
Recall, Durov was detained by French special services at the Paris-Le Bourget airport. The businessman arrived in the country from Azerbaijan. He was placed on international wanted lists shortly before the aircraft's landing. The businessman was accused of refusing to cooperate on issues of cyber and financial crimes on Telegram. He remains in custody, while his companion has already been released.
By the way, in 2018, French President Emmanuel Macron met with Telegram founder Pavel Durov over lunch. During the meeting, the French leader proposed that the businessman move the messenger's headquarters to Paris.
